Its development began in 1999 as the embodiment of ideas for using speech synthesis on a computer. It was intended only for personal home use and programming experiments (it didn't even come up with a name - so it became a “Talker”). When it turned out that in terms of functionality and convenience, the Talker was ahead (at that time) of all existing text-to-speech programs, then a page was made for it on the Internet.
